Skincare Sales Jump 40 Percent Boosting Yatsen Revenue
The beauty landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, and Yatsen is leading the charge by successfully pivoting its focus toward the future of skincare. The Chinese beauty group recently reported a notable 5.1 percent increase in second-quarter 2026 revenue, reaching RMB 1.14 billion (US$168.3 million), driven by explosive growth across its skincare portfolio.
This revenue boost wasn’t accidental; it was a deliberate reflection of a strategic shift. Skincare became the undisputed engine of growth, soaring by 40.4 percent to RMB 816.1 million. This category accounted for a substantial 71.5 percent of the group’s total revenue, highlighting the deep consumer demand for premium, clinical-grade treatments.
The success of the skincare segment was fueled by powerful, established brands. Leaders such as Galénic, DR.WU, and Eve Lom anchored this growth, demonstrating that consumers are increasingly prioritizing efficacy and clinical validation in their beauty routines.
In contrast, the colour cosmetics division faced headwinds. Revenue in this segment experienced a significant decline of 35.8 percent. Recognizing this shift, Yatsen acted decisively, streamlining its portfolio to redirect valuable resources away from the slower-growing cosmetics sector and back toward high-potential skincare brands.
This strategic repositioning has tangible financial effects. While the growth in skincare was impressive, the overall group experienced a decline in efficiency, with the gross margin falling to 73.9 percent from 78.3 percent. Furthermore, the net loss widened to RMB 90.8 million, up from RMB 19.5 million the previous year, reflecting the investment costs associated with this major strategic overhaul.
Ultimately, the results underscore Yatsen’s clear vision: to establish itself as a powerhouse in premium and clinical skincare. By focusing its investment on research and development and its core skincare offerings, the group is cementing its position as a forward-thinking entity poised to capture the next wave of beauty consumer spending.
