Macy’s Boosts 2026 Guidance as Retail Sales Grow
Macy’s has signaled strong momentum for the future, raising its full-year 2026 guidance following a robust second-quarter performance. The results underscore a successful shift in the retail landscape, demonstrating that Macy’s store and portfolio transformation is paying off across the group.
The growth wasn’t confined to a single area; comparable sales increased by 2.7 percent, driven by positive movement across the entire ecosystem, including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and the beauty retailer Bluemercury.
Looking at the bottom line, the group achieved solid financial footing. Group net sales climbed 1.1 percent, reaching US$4.9 billion. The performance highlights the resilience of the brand, with Macy’s comparable sales also rising by 1.1 percent, and its Reimagine 200 stores contributing 1.9 percent growth.
Among the nameplates, Bloomingdale’s shone particularly brightly. This division was the strongest performer, posting comparable sales growth of 11.3 percent and achieving record second-quarter sales. This success suggests that the strategy of optimizing and revitalizing key spaces is gaining significant traction.
The beauty segment also delivered impressive results. Bluemercury successfully increased comparable sales by 6.2 percent, further strengthening the group’s exposure to the lucrative prestige fashion and beauty market.
Financially, the growth translated into significant gains. GAAP net income nearly doubled, jumping to US$169 million from US$87 million. Furthermore, adjusted EBITDA saw a healthy increase, reaching US$457 million.
Beyond sales figures, the company is actively investing in its future. Macy’s reported US$116 million in tariff refunds, a portion of which—US$96 million—was strategically reinvested into the Bold New Chapter strategy and long-term growth initiatives. This investment underscores a commitment to sustainable, long-term expansion.
Ultimately, these results paint a compelling picture of a retailer successfully navigating a complex market. The strong momentum across its portfolio, especially within its prestige divisions, positions Macy’s for continued success as it executes its vision for a transformed retail environment.
