Unilever expands Egypt manufacturing with new Sunsilk line
Egypt Powers Up Global Cosmetics: Unilever Expands Manufacturing Footprint
Egypt is not just a regional hub; it is a powerhouse of manufacturing, strategically positioned at the crossroads of global commerce. This dynamic positioning is being amplified as Unilever significantly expands its production capacity and manufacturing base within the country, cementing its role in the global supply chain for personal care products.
A major milestone in this expansion involves the inauguration of a new Sunsilk production line at Unilever’s Mashreq Personal Care Factory in the 6th of October City. This strategic investment immediately boosts the facility’s annual production capacity by 20 percent, signaling a major step forward in the company’s manufacturing ambitions.
This new line is designed not just to increase volume, but to sharpen the factory’s focus on international demand. It utilizes advanced liquid bottling technology, allowing the facility to produce at a greater scale while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency required for export markets.
The Mashreq facility already operates at an impressive scale, having quadrupled its production over the last two decades. It currently serves as a vibrant manufacturing center for a diverse portfolio of beloved brands, including Sunsilk, Dove, LUX, Lifebuoy, Signal, Closeup, TRESemmé, and Comfort, spanning Personal Care, Beauty, and Home Care categories.
The strategic importance of the Egyptian operations goes beyond domestic production. The factory currently directs approximately 65 percent of its output to more than 30 countries across four continents. This demonstrates Egypt’s critical role in Unilever’s intricate global manufacturing network.
Furthermore, the local manufacturing ecosystem is deeply integrated into this global strategy. The factory sources about 80 percent of its manufacturing materials locally, highlighting the importance of local suppliers and manufacturing expertise in sustaining the group’s international supply chain.
This expansion is more than just a factory upgrade; it is a powerful affirmation of Egypt’s growing importance within Unilever’s regional and global operations. By adding export-focused capacity, the move strengthens the country’s position as a key manufacturing and logistical center for consumer goods.
This commitment ensures that Egypt remains a vital nexus where local manufacturing excellence meets global market demand, driving further growth for both the region and the global brands it supports.
