LG stops TIPSY amid portfolio restructuring
Streamlining Beauty: LG Household & Health Care Divests TIPSY for Strategic Growth
In a major shakeup of its beauty portfolio, LG Household & Health Care has made a significant strategic move by discontinuing its color cosmetics brand, TIPSY. This decision signals a clear shift in corporate focus, prioritizing investment in brands poised for stronger long-term growth potential in the rapidly evolving global beauty landscape.
TIPSY had been an ambitious venture within the company’s portfolio, initially acquired through LG Household & Health Care’s stake in Roa Korea back in 2020. The brand was designed to appeal specifically to younger, digitally engaged consumers, aiming to capture a dynamic segment of the market.
However, as the beauty market underwent a dramatic transformation following the pandemic, so did the competitive environment. As social media-driven indie brands surged in popularity, the color cosmetics sector became intensely competitive, making it challenging for TIPSY to secure the necessary traction and market share.
Recognizing these shifts, the company opted to streamline its offerings. This move reflects a broader industry trend where major beauty corporations are focusing resources on fewer, higher-potential brands, aiming to reduce complexity while boosting competitiveness across global markets.
Under the leadership of CEO Lee Sunjoo, this restructuring programme is designed to ensure that corporate investment is channeled into areas with maximum future impact. Consequently, LG Household & Health Care is concentrating its resources on a carefully selected group of core brands known for their stability and growth trajectory.
The new focus involves prioritizing significant investment in established and promising names across the company’s portfolio. This includes key pillars such as The History of Whoo, CNP, Belif, The Face Shop, Dr. Groot, Yusimol, and product lines like Physiogel, VDL, Dominas, and Pra.L.
This strategic realignment positions the company to capitalize on established market strengths while fostering innovation in areas demonstrating robust potential for sustained success, marking an exciting new chapter for its beauty enterprise.
