Haunted House Muscles and the £500 Challenge
Sometimes, the best plans are the ones you don’t make. This recent unexpected burst of ridiculously good weather turned a simple day into a perfect escape right here in Bath and its surrounding villages.
Instead of retreating to the work cabin and diving into the keyboard, the invitation was clear: seek the sun. I traded the screen for a book—I found myself thoroughly enjoying my copy of Fruit Fly—and migrated to the roof terrace. It quickly became the perfect spot for slow-cooking myself in the afternoon warmth.
This outdoor space, situated right above the bedroom, truly defines the feeling of living here. It offers unparalleled views, putting you in a cinematic frame. Beyond the beauty, the terrace functions as an absolute sun trap, feeling at least five degrees hotter than the garden below it—a wonderfully surprising reprieve from the heat.
The atmosphere was so blissful that the kids seemed to forget the terrace even existed, choosing not to interrupt this private moment of pure relaxation.
I embraced the unexpected heat. I had to pull out the shorts I had stowed away and refresh myself with the dregs of holiday suntan lotion. The warmth was a lovely surprise, slowly creeping into my bones and washing away any lingering tension.
The experience deepened when I decided to simply surrender to the heat. I lay down on the tiles, positioning a cushion under my head, and drifted into a forty-minute nap. It was a moment of absolute, deep tranquility, where the only sound was the gentle warmth of the sun.
This sense of well-being isn’t limited to the leisure time. I’ve also been exploring new physical routines, such as the Sculpt 30 exercise classes. These sessions, a blend of Pilates and Barre, have been surprising in their effectiveness, activating tiny muscles I never knew existed.
Embracing the warmth and the movement has brought a new awareness to my body. I can already feel the subtle shifts, noticing muscle pains in places I hadn’t realized I possessed. It turns out, finding that perfect balance between relaxation and activity is the real secret to feeling truly alive.
