Amorepacific funds research for Inner Beauty Index
Beyond the Surface: Amorepacific Invests in the Science of Inner Beauty
In a bold move that fuses beauty, psychology, and artificial intelligence, Amorepacific is charting a new course for how the world views beauty. The company has committed KRW1 billion, or approximately US$720,000, to Yonsei University to launch a landmark research initiative focused on the concept of “inner beauty” among young people and the profound societal shifts driven by digital culture and demographic change.
This ambitious partnership is more than just a philanthropic gesture; it is an investment in redefining aesthetics. The collaboration, centered at the Institute for Population and Talent, aims to move the conversation beyond superficial physical appearance and delve into the deep psychological and social dimensions of beauty. By examining how young people perceive and value themselves, the research seeks to uncover a holistic understanding of what constitutes true beauty.
A core component of this massive undertaking is the development of a Korean Inner Beauty Index (IBI). To achieve this objective, Amorepacific is allocating KRW500 million specifically to define and objectively measure this elusive concept. The resulting index will provide a scientific framework, offering measurable data that can illuminate the complex relationship between internal self-perception and external expression.
The research scope extends even further. The remaining KRW500 million will be dedicated to investigating the structural social changes instigated by artificial intelligence and evolving demographic trends. This dual focus ensures that the project not only explores personal perceptions but also examines the wider forces shaping modern society and beauty standards.
The impact of this research is set to be immediately practical. The findings are earmarked to directly inform and enhance Amorepacific’s existing youth programs, such as the Meet Your Beauty initiative. This infusion of data allows the company to move beyond anecdotal evidence, providing a research-based blueprint for developing programs that genuinely address the evolving emotional and psychological needs of the younger generation.
Ultimately, this initiative reflects a growing recognition that social media and digital culture have significantly altered the landscape of beauty perceptions. By seeking to broaden the concept of beauty beyond mere physical attributes, Amorepacific is positioning itself as a leader—not just in cosmetics, but in understanding the complex, evolving narrative of human self-worth in the digital age.
